Blog: Are you interested in a gaijin's experience in Japan? A guy's quest to find love in a foreign country? Check out Steve's New Osaka Experience. (Originally this description was written about Steve's Original Osaka Experience, but the description still applies.)
Photography Site: As much as I love film, I love my digital camera even more which makes DP Review (or Digital Photography Review) a necessity. DP Review is a comprehensive site with digital photography news, reviews, forums, and even some education.
Web Comic: I tore through the 500 back comics of The Order of the Stick in record time. The artwork is mostly stick figure and the setting is the board game geeky Dungeons & Dragons, but if you're familiar with RPGs it's funny as hell.
Blog: Scott Adams, the author of Dilbert, now has his own blog. I'm not even the fan of Dilbert I used to be, but I find his blog highly entertaining. I'm also surprised he writes in it as much as he does.
Cigar Board: I'm a cigar smoker and Herfer's Paradise is about smoking cigars, 'nuff said. [They changed the board, and you have to be a member to get access to the forums these days. Membership is free, but it's still annoying.]
Food Board: I have a tendency to read the Chowhound Southwest board often to see if anyway has found any new gems. Since everyone's tastes are different I've found a few places I haven't been happy with, but they don't lack for variety.
Video: If there were only more storm troopers like those in Look Sir, Droids then the entire Empire would be a better place.
Videos: Japanese television usually isn't entertaining, but the "Sekkusu Appiiru [Sex Appeal]" segment of some show certainly is. The premise seems to be that viewers send in their idea of a sexy situation then it's acted out and a prize is given based on how much sex appeal it had. The prizes are chocolate kisses, sausage, fruits, something I don't understand, and 100,000 yen. The skits are funny even if you don't understand anything said. There's no nudity, but your work has to be pretty liberal for this to be considered work safe.
Here are the segments by date (I left out one or two episodes because they aren't especially good).
Flash: Their Circular Life uses photography and audio to give you a real sense of place. I like the concept.
Flash: Fly Guy is like a cool daydream. I like the graphics even though they're low resolution and I had a fun time trying to interact with everything.
Blog: I am a Japanese School Teacher used to be a daily distraction, but it doesn't get updated anymore.
Blog: Waiter Rant isn't just a waiter ranting, unlike the name suggests, but a collection of interesting stories based in a restaurant. Very high quality writing.
Game: Splash Back has a simple premise, but it's a good way to kill time. I cleared 10 levels the first time and haven't been able to get that high since.
Music Video: From DJ Shadow's dvd "On Tune and In Time" is the impressive DJ Shadow with Live Drums.
Music Video: I'm sure you've always wanted to hear a song about pi so check out the video to Hard 'n Phirm's "Pi". The robot singing 3.14159265358979323846... is kind of catchy. Warning for language.
Wrist Watches: I'm more of a pocket watch person than a wrist watch person, but Dream Watches Blog could probably convert anyone. I might be getting flamboyant in my old age because my favorite featured watches are Svend Andersen's La Montre a Tact Diamant, Kees Engelbarts' Mokume Gane Dragon, and the Tag Heuer Monaco V4 (you can see a great picture of Monaco V4's back here and its front here).
Images: One of the things I noticed while in Seattle were the occasional cool manhole covers. Apparently Seattle has nothing on the Manhole covers of Japan.
Blog: I'm not sure The G Manifesto is serious, but I find it amusing either way.
WoW Sex: Find out why World of Warcraft Roleplaying Realms Rule. (It's a little old, but still funny.)
Video: This is one of the funnier things to come out of Saturday Night Live recently is the Chronicles of Narnia rap.
Video: The Ali G NBA commercials are so stupid they're funny.
Game: The Grid Game isn't complicated, but it is good to kill some time.
Video: It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time! (Family Guy style).
Interview: I'm impressed that the guy in "Meet the IT Gigolo" was the first one to come up with the idea. It's probably going to start an IT gigolo trend. Warning for content.
Puzzle: From the same guy who created Grow there's now Grow RPG. It seemed a little simpler than Grow to me, but it's still fun. [Looks like they just added Grow Cube too.]
Puzzle: Su Doku is amazingly addictive. I don't feel like explaining how to play it, but the Su Doku link or this Wired article "Puzzled Brits Clamor for Su Doku" explain it well enough. For a more automated version try Web Sudoku.
Video: Anakin's turning to the dark side in Episode III would have been made more sense if the Emperor showed him something like Star Wars scratch. It makes the dark side look so cool.
Restaurant Slide Show: I think Pierre Gagnaire's 24 hours on our premises is pretty creative in its aim and execution.
Geek Humor Video: All I have to say is "Lee-roy!!!" Not work safe unless you have headphones or something. Also along the gamer theme is "Halo 2 and the Criminal Mind" (also with foul language, but at least it's written).
Self Inflicted Torture Humor: Normally a guy eating nasty crap wouldn't appeal to me, but Steve, Don't Eat It! is actually pretty funny. If you're offended by foul language then I wouldn't recommend reading it.
Trivia: If you like food, and you like timelines, then the food timeline is probably for you. I'm not that fond of timelines myself, but I still find it interesting.
Music: I've held onto this way too long, but it's still good. 50 from osymyso in 05 is a challange from osymyso, an electronic music producer, to himself to produce 50 songs in 2005 and put them on the internet. As of this writing he's only at number nine so it doesn't look like he's going to make it.
Humor: Have you thought your computer is evil? Well "Your Computer is Made Out of Magic" explains that it really is.
Game: GunBound is a multiplayer tank game. The concept is simple, but the gameplay is sufficiently complex to make it interesting.
Product: I need to get a Clocky. If they end up talking to each other then I'd get two.
Game: Nothing like blowing the crap out of things to provide mindless distraction. Intellectual Gunny Bunny aint, but it is fun.
Game: A coworker introduced me to a variation of Go called Five Stone. The object of the game is very simple; be the first to put five stones in a row. Now try playing against the computer at Super Five Stone [note: it seems to work best with Internet Explorer]. I wish I could say I'm good at it, but I haven't beaten the computer once, and a couple of my coworkers beat it routinely now.
Flash: Try your hand at the South Park Create-a-Character. Here's the closest I could come to a South Park character of myself.
Star Wars Geek Humor (audio): Check out mc chris' "Fett's Vette". It's not even close to work safe. The skit The Imperial Senate is pretty entertaining, and it is work safe. All mp3s from mc chris' (who does the voice of MC P Pants on Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Hesh on Sealab 2021) web site.
Web Application: I must be bored because I'm finding Toogle very distracting.
Digital Art: The Zoom Quilt is an interesting example of one of the many possibilities of digital art.
Picture: Wow, how odd is the lap pillow?
Web Pages: Tokyo on One Cliche a Day is a series of articles written by an American in Japan. I'm a sucker for Japan stuff so I dug it.
Video: The dragon illusion is almost too surreal to believe except that some people at work printed one out, put it together, and it works (it does have to be lit correctly [directly, not overhead] and be at eye level to work though).
Video: Normally I don't link commercials, but this Citroen commercial is special. You'll see why.
Game: Treasure Box has an idiosyncratic old school illustration style that probably makes the game more fun to look at than play. Either way it's good to kill five or ten minutes.
Web Comic: I don't like The Powerpuff Girls, Samauri Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, or any of the Cartoon Network original cartoons (except Megas XLR), but The Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi (a fan work that uses characters from those cartoons and others) impresses me with its quality. It's even entertaining.
Blog: Originally I wasn't going to post this. Originally I thought there was a single use curiosity appeal to this web site, but I find myself returning to see if it's actually been updated. There's something oddly compelling about this web site even it I don't agree with everything the writer spouts off about. Maybe it's because the writer is passionate about his field (cooking), and passionate people tend to attract other people. With that said read the rantings of the Angry Chef.
Puzzle: The Daily Set Puzzle is a lot more fun, and a lot harder, than it sounds.
Video: Sony's Dancing Robots is an old video, but cool never goes out of style.
Game: Whizzball is a fun game when you can get it to load. I do have a problem with it though since the object seems to be figuring out how someone wants you to hit the target with a ball instead of just hitting the target with a ball. I guess it's the programmer in me railing about the fact that someone gives me 15 pieces for something I can manage to do in 4, and I have figure out how to make it more complicated.
Alternative Housing: The answer to my home buying problem is apparently a Loftcube. It would give me a good excuse to get a plasma television.
Art Invasion: Space Invaders has one of coolest art concepts I've seen in a long time. Check out his invasion of Paris. Also check out Social Pest, which is where I found out about Mr. Invader.
Flash Games: Sess.net has all sorts of Flash games. Some of them are even fun. Try the "Tactics Core Demo" if you get a chance.
Game: Cyrkam Airtos is a simple, but addictive game. My high score was 2890, but I didn't play too long. [08/24/04: They changed the game so that you pay them $3.50 for an account, or you can play for free, but you have to sit in a queue. It was fun while it lasted, but I'm done playing this game. My final high score was 40,805.][10/14/04: I should have known someone would hijack the game. You can play it queue free here.]
Game: The Quest for the Rest is a unique and fun way to get people to listen to new music. I dig it. It looks like it was made by the same people who made Samorost, but without as much detail.
Music Video (sort of): Watch Zladko "Zlad" Vladcik perform "Elektronik ?Supersonik" for Eurovision. This would have been in the music video section, but it's a total spoof.
Flash: If you click on the "enter tokyoplasic" link tokyoplastic web site you'll be treated to some cool flash stuff.
Short Film: The title Cat With Hands pretty much says it all.
Web Page: Ah, the ancient Japanese art of pencil carving. Actually, some of the carvings are pretty cool.
Games: When you don't have time to look for games yourself 4Games comes in handy. The best games I've found on there so far are Samorost, which has a pretty interesting world, and Spaced Penguins, which makes you want to figure out how to launch a penguin for a million points.
Puzzle: It may not look like it at first, but Grow is an addictive puzzle. Half the fun is trying to figure out the point.
Web Page: Do you ever got the feeling that something is lost in translation? Try lost in translation and see how bad things can get. For example the phrase "I like big butts, and I can not lie." after being translated through five different languages using Babel Fish and retranslated back into English comes out as "Esteem the great extremities and I cannot be." If you're brave enough to try eight languages it comes back as the completely incomprehensible "I pressurize, that I will give the form, this one amiable one of the situation and like."
Story: One man's adventure about riding his couchbike.
Flash Video: I'm A Cow. Amusing, but not work safe.
Audio Clip: If I had heard "Ramen Jiro Noodles: A Test of Greatness" before I went to Japan I would have conditioned myself for the ramen eating experience.
Interview: "How to Wrap Your Friend's Apartment in Tin Foil: A Love Story." is an interesting interview for an interesting real live prank.
Toys!: If only I had tons and tons of money to spend I'd go crazy at KidRobot.
Geeky Humor: Google reveals the technology behind their search engine, and it's pigeons. That's right, pigeons. Fed on lin/ax kernels. (I didn't say it was good humor.)
Flash: If you know anything about Japanese cartoons, and Weebl and Bob, you'll probably love their hentai episode.
Video Clip: Warning, this is meant only for those with fast internet connections. This is a clip from some Japanese tv show that shows two guys playing ping pong Matrix style. It's pretty creative stuff.
Web Site: From music, to games, to movies Heavy.com probably has something to keep you entertained. Be warned, a lot of it isn't work safe.
Movie Clip: ascii Matrix is definitely greater than the sum of its characters. If you think that's clever then check out the other movies on their web site.
Flash: Sort of like the Human Clock it's the Industrious Clock.
Web Site: Go to Homestar Runner and check out the Strong Bad Emails because they aren't filled with crap!
Movies: Oh baby, The Animatrix. Probably not a good idea to view this one at work.
Brainteaser: Be wowed and amazed by The Flash Mind Reader. Can you figure out how it works? If you can't I may write it down someday.
Web Site: I don't know why I find this interesting, but the Oddmusic Gallery is kind of cool if you like looking at (and possibly listening to) odd musical instruments.
Web Site: Happy Tree Friends: cute animals, gruesome deaths. It's a lot more amusing than it probably sounds. (They aren't real animals so don't get all freaked out about it.)
Web Pages: Have you ever wondered how popular your name is? Do you want to give your kid a popular name so that everyone always confuses them with the 13 other kids by the same name so they get a complex about it and resort to crazy things just to be remembered, then check out Popular Baby Names. My name was the 168th most popular name given to boys last year. Oddly enough I don't care, but Lynn's name only ranked at 947 so I'm cooler than her. I'm even cooler than Bob which isn't even on the list. (Of course Robert totally kicks my ass at 32, but who would name their kid Robert instead of just Bob??) In the year 1900 names more popular than mine included the Maynard, Elmer, Marion, Eugene, and the letters I, W, C, A, H, L, G, M, T, F, D, S, O, B, P, V, and especially J. I'm guessing that people couldn't write that well back then, or they weren't very creative.
Games!: More than a game, FHM's 100 Greatest Online Games is a collection of games. Could it get any better?
Flash Movie: Watch Fight! Kikkoman, and if you feel the need to understand what it's all about check out the version with English subtitles. I noticed there were a couple of differences between the two versions. Did you spot them?
Web Pages: Going through the Wai Wai section of Mainichi Daily News I found these articles about the Japanese adult industry:
Web Page: Juggernaut's blog (or the bloggernaut as he refers to it sometimes). BODYSLAMM!!!
Web Pages: I found out that True Porn Clerk Stories is no longer being updated (since the author found another job), so I searched the Improv Resource Center for an entertainment replacement (even though I didn't actually look very hard) and found My daily beverage. It's a much more interesting concept than you would expect, and I have to admire its simplicity.
Web Pages: Sometimes humor shows up in the oddest places (part 2): while looking for the correct spelling for Philly's Blunt (and I still don't know if that's correct) I ran across this page. Well I loved the rating (or rambling story as you might interpret it) by DickDirk so I looked up all of his ratings. The longer ones tend to be pretty amusing. [Read his rating for "Gerbil/Hamster". It's a riot!]
Games: When you're tired of playing by yourself or against the computer, try one of the games at Yahoo Games and see how much fun it is to kick a real live person's ass.
Flash: I like the everyday happenings of Weebl, and sometimes Weebl's friend Bob almost as much as I like pie. Mmmmmmmm pie.
Web Site: Have you wanted to wanted to watch tv, but not had the time to do it? Read Television Without Pity for recaps of your favorite shows. (I actually don't understand the whole tv without pictures concept or liking a tv show so much that I would be willing to read about past episodes, so don't ask me.)
Application: What could possibly make your music more enjoyable than a little chick in the lower left corner of your monitor that dances to the music? That's what the folks at MP3 Dancer would like you find out. I just have the free version installed, and I have to say it's kind of amusing (it gets old quickly though).
Game (sort of): CreateBands.com allows you to create a band with all sorts of different characters. I made my own chick band with a dj who mixes with his foot. How can you not dig that?
Web Site: Got a hankering for a new beer, then make Beer Advocate your first stop. Beer Advocate is dedicated to, well, beer, and boy are they dedicated.
Web Pages: Review of Adult Service and Osaka Fuzoku are two web pages dedicated to reviewing Japanese "adult services" and are written by people who obviously don't speak English as their native language. It makes for interesting statements like, "To act like kitten is sometimes Walter's device." Do I even need to give you a warning given the subject matter? (Here's a fuzoku glossary and a list of fuzoku terms.)
Web Site: Steve's not the only foreigner living in Asia, check out Adventures of a big white guy living in hong kong. It doesn't concentrate on the chicks as much as Steve's site, but he does tell some really good stories.
Web Page: Just when you thought the porn industry had already thought of everything, read "New adult videos deal a low blow to manhood". This story is just one of many odd stories in the WaiWai section of the Mainichi Daily News site.
Web Site: Are you worried about what kind of movies your kids could be watching? Are you so offended by certain things that you don't even want to take the chance of being exposed to them? If either is the case then you may want to check out What Works: Movies. If you're child free, don't care what your kids watch, or happen to actually be able to deal with uncomfortable things, then you might want to check out the site to see what a movie review by truly anal people can look like. Excerpt from a review of "Godzilla 2000": "Profanity: # At least 3 hells, 2 asses (1 used with 'hole'), 2 damns, 1 crap, 2 uses of 'My God' and 1 use of 'Good Lord' as exclamations."
Web Site: Is it art or just an excuse to wreck things? Check out Crash Bonsai.
Web Site: The Fray has lots and lots of stories. Some good, some bad, but only one way to find out...
Music Video (sort of): Leonard Nimoy and "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins".
Videos: Never one to be afraid of plugging my own shit, my two music video pages (electronic music videos and other music videos) are good for distraction. (Some of the videos were taken from the Ninja Tune video page. Ninja Tune is a label that puts out all sorts of good eclectic music.)
Applications: Not really distractions, these are a couple of cool applications that help protect your privacy and possibly create a bet web browsing experience for you. Ad-Aware checks your computer for stealth "ad-ware" running and gives you the option to remove it. Webwasher allows you to filter out banner ads and disable annoying popup ads. (I haven't installed Webwasher yet so I don't know how easy, useful, or effective it is. Hopefully I'll get around to doing it some time soon.)
Web Site: Proving that they are the l33t search engine, Google offers Google H4x0r:
| 534RC|-|3D d4 \/\/3B 4 w4r3z. | R35UL7Z 1 - 10 0F 4B0U7 1,430. 534RC|-| t00K 0.21 53C0NdZ. |
You've got to love it.
Web Pages: Where can you find a club bearing Club Sandwich and Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle? At Hello Kaiju of course.
Web Page: "Welcome to Zombocom." You'll either love it or hate it.
Web Site: Bokken (wooden swords) are cool, but not as cool as Parks Sabers.
Web Pages: Sometimes humor shows up in the oddest places, for instance read the reviews by Leon on Epinions.
Web Page: I wish I wrote up my lab reports like "Electron Band Structure In Germanium, My Ass".
Web Page: Ok, I stole this link from one of the other sites I already link to, but linking and stealing is what the web is about right? Normally I despise home owner associations (HOAs); I feel that if you own your own land and your own house no one should be allowed to tell you that you can't paint your house a certain color or any of the other myriad of things they have rules for. Well not having a HOA assumes that the home owners in your neighborhood aren't complete idiots. Redneck Neighbor is making me rethink my negative HOA feelings.
Web Page: I can't stop with the psychology. Lucy Griffin Appert writes an interesting essay on Voyeurs and their possible motivation. I not only think it's dead-on, but I believe it applies to personal web sites too. (How can the creation and reading of personal and web sites not be a form of exhibitionism and voyeurism?)
Web Page: Like Legos, fiction, and pictures? Check out The Story of Andy's Computer.
Web Pages: Back to psychology (humans really are interesting animals). In The Difficulties of Being a Goof the author talks about how they had an goofy idea which ended up being an interesting human experiment.
Movie: Liked the movie "Clerks"? "Star Wars"? If you dug both check out "Trooper Clerks".
Web Pages: Now for something completely different. The last distraction was about porn customer psychology, this time it's about Cow Psychology.
Web Pages: Probably more than you ever wanted to know about people, True Porn Clerk Stories is interesting and very well written.
Web Pages: Not enough has been said about how strange Japanese food can be so check out The Wacky World of Japanese Ice Cream. (Provided by the Mainichi Daily News which can keep you up to date on interesting things in Japan, including what's happening in sumo.)
Blog: #!/usr/bin/girl is full of good distraction.
Games: Orisinal has a lot of unique games. What more do you need to know?
Web Site: Sexy Losers is a perverse web comic. Don't read it if you're easily offended. Hell, I wouldn't even suggest reading it if you're not easily offended. There's something guaranteed to offend or gross out anyone so don't say you weren't warned. Oh yeah, there's nudity (albeit cartoon nudity) in it too if you happen to be someplace where any kind of nudity is unacceptable.
Web Page: Ever wonder what would happen if you mixed the Apocalypse with Pokemon? Apocamon has the answer. Something else cool about it is the fact that it's Biblically accurate even if the characters are all cute.
Web Page: Not really entertainment, Nissan Motors vs. Nissan Computer is the true story of Nissan Motor Corp. trying to make it so expensive for Nissan Computer (the rightful owner and user of the nissan.com domain) that they will give the domain up to them. They have some gall. Bastards. And the Nissan Sentra is a shitty car too!
Web Page: Maybe you're weird like me and would actually enjoy reading the Timeline of the world's tallest skyscrapers. A couple of the buildings featured in the timeline are some of my favorite buildings. [I'll have to see if I can find web sites for them and put them here.]
Web Pages: Undoubtedly a hoax, it's the never before seen "Dogbert Origin Strips".
Web Pages: What's better than looking at obsessive/compulsive art work made from everyday items? Artists who get off on sending fake stamps through the mail! My favorites are the "Ready, Set, Go" series and the "National Group Sex Day" stamp.
Web Page: At least you don't have to be sober to take this test.
Web Site: I don't know of anything more interesting to read about then sex, so Joan Elizabeth Lloyd's Secrets for Lovers makes for really good reading since it's dedicated to the education and experiences of.
Game: I like the idea of being able to destroy people at will so naturally I enjoy the game Ant City where you fry people with a giant magnifying glass.
Video: Please make it stop!
Web Page: If you ever listened to a Tool song and had questions about the lyrics (which you would if you ever listened to Tool lyrics) or anything else remotely tool related, then The Tool FAQ is the page for you.
Web Site: Even though I'm not a wine drinker, I've been enjoying the Wine Enthusiast site. They talk about more than just wine. Some of the very well written articles I've seen discuss latin cocktails (including the mojito), balsamic vinegar, restaurant wine etiquette, chocolate, 2001 best of spirits guide, and my favorite spirit, tequila.
Game: I'll just let the title speak for itself. Monster Pool Side Sumo.
Web Pages: Two things you were interested in but were too afraid to ask; well here are two web pages giving you The Facts on Farts and The Scoop on Poop.
Video: Check this out if you'd like your own Coldcut DJ Set to "Get the party jumping."
Movie: Watch ASCII Star Wars if you have a lot of time and enjoy ASCII art.
Web Page: This guy's .plan is more entertaining than most people's blogs. Enjoy.
Video: I try to keep the music videos in the music video section, but sometimes they're too damn distracting. Markus Nikolai - "Bushes (Norman Cook Remix)" will probably have you watching two or three times.
Web Site: In the mood to learn something, check out SoYouWanna.com. They'll teach you how to enjoy Champagne or buy a suit. (Ok, maybe those things are only important to me in my quest to become a gentleman, but they teach about all sorts of useful things.)
Video: Is the Pong video merely humorous or does it have a deeper philosophical meaning? You make the call.
Game: Another deceptively simple addictive game is Bounce Out! from GameHouse. Match at least 3 balls in a row to bounce the balls out of the box. Easy right?
Video: I forgot how much fun watching short films at work can be. One of my favorite shorts is Herd (courtesy of iFilm).
Video: I saw this a while ago under the name "Fuck Fu", but now it's on iFilm by the name of "Kung Fu Love". Do I really need to give you a warning about the content? (You did see the original title right?)
Video: A collaboration that worked out pretty well is the video Ninja Tune vs. Burning Man. Featuring music from Ninja Tune (including a couple of my favorite Ninja Tune artists, Amon Tobin and The Herbaliser), the video is like an introduction to Burning Man, the annual gathering in the Nevada desert.
Game: I love shooting games, and this has something that the others don't. Stick men with guns! Play Xiao Xiao 4. Note: if you aren't using Netscape 6.1 or IE 5.5 or above, this site opens an annoying window bothering you about your browser. Just close it and you'll see that the page you want is hiding behind it. If you'd rather not deal with the bullshit you can play Xiao Xiao 4 here, but the download speed isn't nearly as fast as the other site.
Web Site: Enjoy the most honorable Ninja Burger site. Now with their very own comic strip.
Web Site: Inquisitive mind? Want to know how stuff works? Well, HowStuffWorks probably has the answer. I'm going there right now to see how a flamethrower works. [I found out they also publish a periodical that's interesting. I opened it up and on page one there was a section titled "Toy Autopsy". Good stuff.]
Game: Kick-ups is a game with a simple concept, but is a lot more difficult than it sounds. (Much like team dominos or Tetris Attack.)
Pictures: Since the whole point of cam sites seems to be looking at someone do something on camera, without much else for content, check out camrecord.com and save yourself the trouble of looking at individual cam sites. Camrecord.com has pictures from over 100 cam sites plus archives. Cam Whores is even more blatant.
Video: After watching Yatta you may never look at the Japanese the same again.
Play!: Whether you like to create things, or just look at other people's creations, sodaplay is a good place to spend time.
Web Site: I tend to believe that squirrels aren't the source of all evil, but scary squirrel world would have you believe differently. Maybe they're onto something? [The more I think about it, maybe they're just on something.] [Recently I saw the black squirrels of northeast Ohio, and they did look pretty evil.]
Game: Driving around aimlessly seems to be the point to the Gorillaz driving game (based on the video for "19/2000"), but it's fun for a while. Too bad you can't fly the ufo.
Video: If you've ever watched Dragon Ball Z, check out DBZ in a nutshell. It only takes about a minute to explain every Dragon Ball Z plot. Scary.
Nonfiction: Read the diary of Steve Alpert, Director of Studio Ghibli's Overseas Business Division, about his experience getting the movie "Princess Mononoke" ready for US theatrical release. Fascinating.
Pictures: If you have nothing better to do than look at your computer, then the Human Clock will give you something new to look at every minute of the day. 1,440 little human digital clock distractions in all.
Video: If you're familiar with "All Your Base are Belong to Us" then you should watch the "All Your Base" $3000 Pyramid. It's Smurfy Smurf!
Video: Watch the The Terrible Secret of Space and decide if shoving or pushing is the answer.
Video: Something that's good for about five minutes of distraction is Weeee!. Warning: the banner ads on this page tend to be explicit.
Web Site: The Gorillaz site has all sorts of stuff to keep you distracted. Check out the mixer. It'll make a producer out of you in no time.
