Memories (Q3 2001)
8/31 - Friday
Created the
Electronic Music Songs & Albums section instead of studying Japanese like I was supposed to. (I'd say "I'm such a bad student" in Japanese but I don't know how.)
Updated the global navigation. It's still not 100% foolproof, but I'm working on it.
Ok, the navigation is now pretty foolproof. It can still be screwed up (you have to love DHTML), but if you screw it up it's your own fault now.
8/30 - Thursday
This week just isn't ending fast enough. Come on Nocturnal Wonderland! In the meantime there's Let's Be A Kid Again. You can find the location and directions at
Noah's site [the link has been removed because it's now a porn site]. Entry is $8 before 10 and $10 after 10. It looks like
Noah is coming on at 8:30 so be early!
Oh ya, found out we have 13 people going up with us to NW. Impressive.
Added some quick and dirty navigation to the homepage. You can only see it when that ad on the side minimizes. I'll try and have some real navigation up by wednesday of next week. (I really should lay off creating new sections and functionality right before I leave work.)
8/28 - Tuesday
Added a little color to the site. I'm still a long way from having a graphic design, but it's a start.
8/27 - Monday
Wow, the guy at
PLUR 2K is too fast. He's got pictures from fridays
house party.
Yesterday I bought two disposable cameras that I'll be taking with me to Nocturnal Wonderland. Pictures, whoo hoo!
8/26 - Sunday
I saw
Noah spin for the first time at a house party on Friday night. Read about it on the
shows page. By the way, Charity/Lisa Marie, you throw a fun party.
(Check Noah out this friday at Let's Be a Kid Again.)
I went rollerblading today. At 4 in the afternoon. Remind me never to do that again. I found out tonight that it was 114 degrees today. That might explain the entire bottle of water I drank in the 20 minutes it took me to go a mile. (A world class runner does a mile in under 4 minutes.) Well, I haven't been rollerblading in a long time so this was like the first time all over again; exhausting, painful, and almost unmanageable. I did learn an important lesson though, the tighter your skates are around your ankles, the more likely you are to ride on top of your skates when you're tired instead of on their sides.
8/24 - Friday
We went to see
Captain Tinrib @ The Buddha Lounge last night. We only got to see him for about half an hour, but he played some good schtuff. Of course I wrote about it on the
shows page. The Buddha Lounge looks like it's improving as a venue. This time instead of being a big empty room, it was a big empty room with two green lasers. I'm actually a sucker for green lasers. That and a smoke machine (which they had) are enough to keep me happy for a while. Eventually I would expect them to have lights, but this is a good start. Anyway, you can see pictures
here courtesy of
PLUR 2K.
(You can catch Captain Tinrib tomorrow headlining PowerPlur Force 3 @ The Nile.)
Later that night we went to Floorplay @ Polyesters. It was crazy. In fact, it was too crazy for me. There wasn't enough room on the dance floor to dance and when you could find a spot to try to dance, people were either pushing in to get closer to the foam or pushing out to get away from the foam. (Polyesters has two foam machines that look like evaporative coolers that bubble foam which oozes over the crowd. I like Freedom's foam cannon much better. At Freedom they can cover half the dance floor with foam without anyone having to move. At Polyesters it has to ooze from the front to get to the back.) I do have to say that the music was good and the women were cute though, but when they started playing booty rap, I had to go.
Tonight Noah is spinning at a house party. It'll be my first time seeing him preform in front of a crowd. Should be fun.
8/23 - Thursday
Added even more links to "Event Schedules" on the
Electronic Music Shows page. There's enough information there to keep you busy for a while.
8/22 - Wednesday
Tomorrow are two foam parties.
Floorplay @ Polyesters and
eFoamparty @ Club Rio. There's also
Ibiza Foam Party #3 @ Club Freedom on friday.
Noah is spinning at "Let's Be A Kid Again" on Friday August 31st. Go check him out. (He's making me stay up late the night before Nocturnal Wonderland, so he better be good.) Check out Noah's brand new site [link removed because it's now a porn site]. Email him and tell him to fix the site so you can read it in Netscape. ; ]
8/20 - Monday
The content for my
Portland trip page is complete. I'll add a couple of pictures if I can find some. I don't know what I was thinking, but I didn't bring a camera with me.
8/19 - Sunday
Went to
Audio Dreams last night. Lots of good djs and music, too bad the promoters
Midnight Society did a half-ass job.
First, they didn't deliver what they promised.
- The visuals that were supposed to be on "3 giant LCD screens and 2 huge helium balloons" ending up being on one screen.
- Lasers, what lasers?
- The chill out areas were supposed to have music and they didn't.
- It was supposed to be from 7pm to 7am and it was shut down about 3:30 or 4. (The jungle crew didn't shut down, but they were also the first to start up again after the power got pulled. Beats me.)
Second, and here's the part that's the worst, half way though the night the show was shut down by the light and sound people because they didn't get paid. It took about 30 minutes before the sound came back on. Damn, how hard is it to make sure people get paid!?
I did have a good time despite everything, but I definitely wouldn't recommend any Midnight Society events to anyone.
On a happier note, a show that is sure to kick ass is Nocturnal Wonderland. They updated their site on friday with full show details. It will be held @ the Havasu Landing Resort in Lake Havasu from 6pm saturday to 8am sunday. Dj highlights that I didn't mention before: Andy C, Bad Boy Bill, Donald Glaude, Cirrus, Mark Farina (for the ambient lover in you), Tidy Boys (for the hard house lover in you), and Omar Santana (for the hardcore lover in you).
8/15 - Wednesday
Got my ticket to
Nocturnal Wonderland today. Insomnia published a partial list of the djs playing on the
Groovetickets site and the NW site should be updated on Saturday with the full lineup. So far it looks pretty good though.
Rabbit in the Moon,
DJ Tiesto,
The Bassbin Twins,
Sandra Collins,
Christopher Lawrence,
DJ Hype,
DJ Rap, and
Frankie Bones. More than a few good djs.
Finally, I have a little something up about my Portland trip. Hopefully I'll stop slacking and finish it up before the end of this week.
Correction: the dj that I thought kicked so much ass during the first foam party @ Freedom was Senbad. (Someone had an old schedule that allowed me to verify who was playing when.)
8/13 - Monday
Went to Portland, Oregon this last weekend. That was fun. I guess that means I need to add a couple of sections to write about it. Maybe I'll do it tonight.
8/5 - Sunday
Wow, what a good weekend for music! Friday night was
Rubin and
Z-trip @ Freedom. That was an amazing show.
Z-trip has to be the hardest working dj in the business. Saturday was
Nu Theory,
Maji, and
Timo Maas @ Freedom! They were all good, and I see why Timo is a legend in Europe. Read about it all about it on the
shows page.
Creamfields Las Vegas has been canceled. That sucks since they had a lineup that was larger than anything we've seen in the US. It promised to be the best show of the year.
8/3 - Friday
Went to see
Kevin Brown @ The Buddha Lounge last night. Kevin was really good. (Read about it
here.) It was my first time going to The Buddha Lounge and I wasn't impressed with it. It was better than The Nile, but that's not saying much. It wasn't a big empty room, but it looked like Mr. Big Empty Room's first cousin. I'm sure it will improve with time. I hope they schedule the type of djs they have playing better. It's not good to mix cheesy trance with good music. (It throws people into shock.) Anyway, it makes me really appreciate Freedom and what they do.
So you don't think I just kiss Freedom's ass, check out The Buddha Lounge for yourself. You might like it better than I did. Here's their schedule. Next thursday is Nu Theory. Check him out.
Tonight @ Freedom Z-trip. Tomorrow @ Freedom Timo Maas and Leon Alexander! I'll post reviews as soon as I can.
Updated the music section. (That's a given since the music section is the only section I have up.)
7/30 - Monday
Went to the foam party on friday and had a good time, but it was different than the first time. It seemed like there were less people there (which is a shame since there was more foam this time). I know there were less people dancing in the foam. One possible explanation is some people didn't know it was going to be a foam party since it wasn't originally scheduled that way. Well, I'm hoping number three has a better turn out.
I'll be able to scratch a dj off of my "to see" list. Timo Maas is going to be here this Saturday!
7/27 - Friday
Tonight is the foam party @ Freedom. Should be tons of fun.
7/26 - Thursday
The
music section is uploaded and about half finished. Maybe after I complete the music section I'll work on the design that way it isn't so generic looking.
7/23 - Monday
Actual content. It's incomplete, but it's a start. Preview my
electronic music shows page.
Being able to upload these web pages from work is definitely a curse.
7/21 - Saturday
Went to Doozer @ The Nile.
Milktoast played a bad-ass breakbeat set and
AK1200 dropped some killer jungle. I'll definitely see those two guys again if I have the opportunity. One word about The Nile. "Horrible". The place was far too hot and stuffy. The room in the basement was even worse because it didn't have lights or ventilation. Needless to say I won't be going there again. Oh well, this Friday is another foam party @ Club Freedom.
Freedom Events Calendar - It changes often which can a good thing or a bad thing depending on your outlook. Good when they schedule extra foam parties and bad when one of the djs you really wanted to see isn't on the schedule anymore.
7/13 - Friday
Went to the Ibiza Foam Party @ Club Freedom. That was so much fun! It was actually the most fun I've ever had a club.
good music + foam = much fun
